The subsistence and lifestyle throughout human history and evolution have had a profound effect on modern humanity. However our biological interaction with culture and the environment is ongoing and more recent events have had a profound impact on contemporary human biology. This class will examine case studies examining the biological impact of “civilization” on individuals and populations of the past and today. Important topics covered will include the transition to agriculture, urbanism, inequity, migration, state sponsored violence, colonialism, globalization and capitalism.
